Athletic Hall of Fame
The McDowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame has been organized to recognize outstanding achievement in athletics for athletes, coaches, and others who have made significant contributions to the athletic program.

Congratulations to all nominees and inductees!
Announcements
Eligibility
Individuals may be nominated in one of three categories. The three categories will include athlete, coach, and contributor.
  • Athletes who have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics while a student at McDowell High School. Athletes must have been graduated from McDowell High for at least ten years, have outstanding moral character, and have spent at least two years as a student at McDowell High School. Other criteria that can be used in consideration are athletic awards, participation in college or professional sports, and leadership qualities.
  • Coaches of outstanding moral character with at least five years service at McDowell High School and have been inactive at McDowell High school for at least five years. Criteria consideration should be based on coaching accomplishments that merit statewide recognition as well as significant contributions to the athletic programs at McDowell High School.
  • Contributors who have made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs at McDowell High school other than coaching or playing.
Induction
After the first three years, the number of inductees will be limited to no more than five in one year. There will not be a minimum number of inductees for a year.
Nomination Process
An individual must be nominated through written application. Nominations will be due during the last month of each school year with the exception of the first Hall of Fame class. Nominations may be submitted by anyone.
Selection Process
A nomination must receive 80 percent of the vote from the selection committee to be inducted.
Selection Committee
The original selection committee will be composed of members from the following group, with the expectation to turn the selection process over to the Hall of Fame members in the future.
  • Principal
  • Athletic Director
  • One member of local school board
  • Member of the community with knowledge of McDowell High Athletics
  • Member of School system with knowledge of McDowell High Athletics
  • Individuals chosen at the discretion of the Athletic Director or Principal
  • Member of local media
